BIEBER fever hit the North last night as a teenage global phenomenon blazed into the region to thrill thousands of fans.
A full house at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena screamed its way through the show by teen sensation Justin Bieber, who brought his My World Tour to town.
The die-hard fans - who dub themselves Bieliebers - had started queuing outside the venue at lunchtime to ensure they were first through the doors.
With a full band, four dancers and four singers, the pint-sized pop star - sporting a white and silver tracksuit - sent the girls crazy when he whipped off his sunglasses and threw them to one lucky fan.
The 17-year-old Canadian trotted out all the hits, including Love Me, Never Say Never and One Less Lonely Girl.
During his song Favourite Girl, he climbed into a flying metal heart and drifted over the audience playing his guitar, Bieber yelled: “There are a lot of pretty girls out there tonight. Do you want me to come and see you?”
Before the show Jasmine Thompson 12, of Heaton, Newcastle, said: “I didn't sleep last night. It is so exciting. It is my first big concert and I am excited to see a famous person.”
Another fan Rebecca Wilson, 13, from Edinburgh, declared: “He is so fit. He is young and has done so well for himself. We have had our tickets since the day they were available.”
Also on the bill was Will Smith's daughter, Willow, who finished with her number one hit Whip My Hair.
Bieber scooped the award for International Breakthrough artist at the Brits earlier this year.
With a number one album, a box-office smash movie and fans including the Obamas, the world has been consumed by Bieber fever.
Having collaborated with Kanye West, Chris Brown and Sean Kingston, it seems Bieber has an A-List circle of friends to match his success.
Although he has been in the spotlight for a mere three years, Bieber has starred in a movie Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which documents his life so far.
He was ‘discovered’ after his mother posted videos of him singing on YouTube which clocked 10 million hits. Seven months later he signed to Island Records after declining offers to sign with Usher and Justin Timberlake.
Despite touring and performing around the world, he spent the morning before his Newcastle gig studying and tweeted to his eight million fans about the science lesson he was having with his tutor.
His presence has already caused chaos during this tour. Some dates were cancelled due to the anticipated crowds, schoolgirls fainted with excitement and last week the police were called to control fans who swarmed to his hotel.
