Tony Jeffries tells kids of scrape with the law

Tony Jeffries

TOP fighter Tony Jeffries has been teaching kids a lesson...about how teenage bad behaviour can come back to haunt you.

And the boxer - a bronze medallist at the Beijing Olympics - was using himself as an example of why you should avoid bother!

The Sunderland scrapper now lives in Los Angeles but recently ran into problems with his visa because of a run-in with cops as a 14-year-old.

Tony, a keen Black Cats fan, received a caution and thought it was done and dusted...until he applied to train in the USA 12 years on.

He told children at Sandhill View School why.

“When I was a kid I had an allotment where I kept chickens and pigeons,” said Tony, who starts an exclusive Sunday Sun column next week.

“We wanted to make a new chicken coop but I didn’t have any nails.

“So me and my mate went over to a new building site, climbed over the fence, picked up a black bin and put some nails in there. We got a shovel and a new hammer too.

“We were walking back to the allotment when the police came screeching around the corner. Someone had obviously seen us.

“We were both arrested, taken to the cells and had our fingerprints taken. I was there for three hours.”
