FORMER Toon striker Andy Carroll has been given some words of wisdom from an unlikely corner . . . top Kop fan and comedian Stan Boardman.
The former Magpie star swapped Tyneside for Merseyside at the end of the January transfer window in an 11th hour deal costing Liverpool £35m.
And faithful Liverpool fan Stan has been closely following his progress at his new home – and says he’ll go far, so long as he avoids the city’s famous drinking culture.
He also hinted that rival Evertonian fans might be keen to stir up trouble for the 22-year-old star.
Stan said: “We always thought he was a good player and he obviously did a good for Newcastle and we had Torres, he wasn’t doing the job or us.
“We were waiting for Carroll to score a goal and we thought, hang on, with a name like that he might not score until Christmas. But now he’s on fire. . . and so’s his car!
“The thing he’s got to be very careful about is the drinking culture that we have in Liverpool.
“You can go out in Liverpool and no one bothers you, it’s just like Newcastle and Middlesbrough, but he’s a young lad – he will have the freedom of the city, he will have all the women after him.
“He will have to watch that and keep out of the papers, just have good stuff in the papers, and hopefully he won’t get into trouble.
