A FAMILY home that added a touch of Hollywood glamour to a drab North landscape has gone on the market for more than £3m.
More at home in Beverley Hills than Bishop Auckland, art deco mansion Tindale Towers was the fulfillment of a dream of owners Mike and Jules Keen, who own and run the flourishing furniture company, Keen Replicas.
Now Tindale Towers – situated between a scrap yard and a bypass on the edge of the County Durham town – is on sale for £3.6m.
Three years ago it was one of the stars of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors annual Renaissance Awards at the Civic Centre, Newcastle.
Millions of viewers were given a television tour of the house when it appeared on I Own Britain’s Best Home.
“Buildings like Tindale Towers offices can hold their own against anything else in the world, combining original thought and detailing with high quality construction and usability,” said Judges’ chairman David Furniss.
Inspired by beach houses Mike saw in Florida and the South of France, the palm-fringed property won the Residential award and was praised by judges for its originality and its high standards of design and construction.
