North pair prepare for three-day pool playing marathon

Marc Murray and Colin Pilcher

TWO pals are attempting to smash the world record for playing pool – by potting balls continuously for THREE days without a wink of sleep.

Marc Murray and Colin Pilcher are tackling the feat later this month, all in aid of North-based charity Heel and Toe.

The two players – who both pot balls for Durham County – will not be allowed to rest while they attempt their relentless 72-hour challenge of playing continuous frames of pool.

But they will be allowed drinks and refreshments during the potting marathon, to be held later this month at The Stateside pub in Consett, County Durham, where the lads are from.

Beginning on July 31 at 7pm, the event is scheduled to last until the same time on Wednesday, August 3, bringing the record to 72 hours and thereby beating the previous result by 18 hours 35 minutes.

The current World Record stands at 53 hours and 25 minutes, and the two lads are determined to smash this.

Marc, 25, who now lives in Wallsend, North Tyneside, and works for a homeless charity, said: “We’ve been reading up on websites and trying to find the best ways of staying awake for so long.

“It seems the best ways are to drink lots of water and take in lots of natural sugars, from fruit for example.
