Widow tells how her kids watched horror crash

Tracey Ritson

THE DEVASTATED wife of a Good Samaritan killed when helping a road smash victim has told of the moment her children witnessed the horrific tragedy.

Speaking for the first time about the horrific events, Tracey Ritson has opened her heart to the Sunday Sun about how her two youngest children witnessed the incident.

The mum-of-three now faces having to bring up her children without the help of her husband Michael after he was killed helping an injured motorcyclist.

Today Tracey pays tribute to her husband, who died of head injuries after the accident which happened on the Felling by-pass in Gateshead in March this year.

The couple and their two youngest children Rio, 10, and Scarlett, three, were returning from a family day out when the tragedy unfolded.

Fighting back the tears, the mum-of-three, of Jarrow, South Tyneside, said: “Everyday is a struggle to get through and there is not a day goes by when I don’t think about what happened. People never get over things like this - the pain never seems to go away.

“The kids were in the car when the accident happened and they saw a man lying in the road. I then had to go back and tell them that it was their dad. No child should ever have to go through anything like that. It was terrible.

“No one ever gets over anything like this and they will always carry that look in their face.

“Both kids witnessed it.

“Rio had got out of the car and saw him lying on the ground. Scarlett had fallen asleep in the back of the car and when she woke up her dad was dead.”
