Man in hospital after being dragged by car

A MAN was dragged up to half a mile under a car after a fight spilled out from a North pub.

The unnamed man was last night in hospital, suffering from serious wounds to his back and feet following the incident in the early hours of yesterday.

The drama unfolded outside the Pack Horse Inn at Tanfield, near Stanley, County Durham, where residents in the picturesque village were woken by screams from the 28-year-old victim as he clung to the bonnet of the 4x4 Nissan Terrano.

Last night landlord of the pub, Nigel Turner (pictured), told how he had split up a fight between two groups of people only minutes before. But once outside tempers flared up again.

Mr Turner, 55, who has been landlord for just three weeks, said: “There were two groups of people in the pub, who came in around the 9pm mark. They sat together and talked and were friends.

“Then, at about 12.10am, the mood changed. There was an altercation and a few punches were thrown. I separated the two parties and one lot went outside. It was about 15 minutes later that the other group left in a car, but then when I looked outside I saw the first group had stopped the car and one was hitting the window with something that looked like a trainer.
