TRIBUTES have been paid to a four-year-old boy who was hit by a car as he visited an ice cream van.
The little boy, named by police last night as James Robinson, was struck by a Ford Fiesta at around 6.10pm on Friday, in Wearport Green, Stockton, Teesside.
Cleveland Police said he was taken to the nearby University Hospital of North Tees where he was pronounced dead.
Last night, his family were too upset to talk about their devastating loss.
But as police appealed for witnessed to come forward, friends of the family in the close-knit community left floral tributes to James, while others took to expressing their sorrow on a page set up in his memory on the social networking site Facebook.
Meanwhile, a close pal revealed he had celebrated his fourth birthday party last month on a lawn just yards from where the tragedy happened.
A friend and neighbour who did not wish to be named said: “This is a tragedy. He was such a lovely little boy, a real cheeky monkey.”
Another neighbour said: “I just can’t believe this has happened.
“This is really tight knit community and we keep an eye on each other’s kids. Kids play out here all the time. I am in shock.”
