A HEARTBROKEN mum has told how she was forced to throw out her partner after an accident turned him into a “monster”.
Karis Mackenzie and Mark Jose had been happily living together for five years in Shildon, County Durham, and were eagerly awaiting the birth of their second child when a horrific fall transformed their lives forever.
Bricklayer Mark, 37, suffered multiple head fractures after falling down a flight of stairs, forcing surgeons to remove a huge section of his skull to relieve the pressure on his brain.
The physical scars began to heal ... but the head injury left Mark with far worse damage, which saw his behaviour became unpredictable and threatening.
Karis felt she had no option but to turf him out of the family home they shared with their two children Jack, two, and Finley, 11 months.
Now, more than a year after the accident, Mark is living in a tent in a field on the outskirts of Shildon – but Karis is too distraught to see him.
She said: “Mark was a wonderful man and we had hopes and dreams together. But that’s all changed.”
It was May 7, 2010, that Mark had his accident.
Medics at Newcastle General Hospital had to remove 10in of his skull to ease the pressure on his brain and save his life.
