IT’S being billed as the greatest-ever football auction and it’s all in honour of one of the game’s greatest-ever men.
It’s a charity sale being held in honour of Sir Bobby Robson – and you’ve never seen prizes like this before.
Among the spectacular ‘once in a lifetime’ lots fans can bid for is the chance to attend an England training session as a personal guest of England manager, Fabio Capello.
Also on offer are two tickets to next year’s Professional Football Association (PFA) Awards Ceremony at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel, in London.
Sir Bobby’s former side Ipswich have put their whole stadium up as a prize, giving the winning bidder the chance to organise a home and away team to play there. Commentary legend John Motson’s commentary charts from a game are also being offered.
Signed football shirts have been donated by top clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, while former Toon star Andy Carroll has donated a signed Liverpool shirt.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson have also both personally donated prizes.
Among one of the more touching personal tributes up for auction is a shirt signed by new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, who has ties with Sir Bobby from his Porto days.
His dedication simply reads: “Thanks for everything”.
