WITH swords drawn and flags flying, two armies charged at each other for the thrilling re-enactment of the Battle of Newburn.
The historic clash was fought between the Scottish and the English in 1640 and was an important part of the events leading up to the Civil War.
Members of the Sealed Knot Society put on the display yesterday on part of the battle site, which now lies in the Tyne Riverside Country Park, Newburn.
