Dozy driver's lies land him a prison term

DOZY driver Alexander Logan landed himself behind bars with a false confession after a road crash.

Dangerous Lee Sweeting had knocked over a motorcyclist then embarked on a shocking course of driving through residential streets.

For an unknown reason Logan walked into a police station afterwards and claimed he was responsible.

Police soon saw through his lies and now Logan has been sent to a young offenders’ institute for 12 months for perverting the course of justice and a separate burglary.

At the same hearing, Sweeting evaded immediate custody after a judge suspended his prison sentence for dangerous driving.

Sweeting had been in a Skoda Octavia in Heaton, Newcastle, on January 3.

As he drove along a motorcyclist pulled out and was struck by Sweeting’s car and was injured.

Prosecutors accept his driving up to the accident was no more than careless, but after the collision he drove dangerously at speed and erratically.
