X FACTOR star Amelia Lily’s dad has revealed how he has spent the last few months battling to save his family business . . . while his daughter edges closer to achieving her dream of becoming a popstar.
Barry Oliver took over his dad John’s firm, JG Oliver & Son, a plumbing and heating contracting business, following his death four years ago.
But the company has struggled to stay afloat financially after two companies went bust owing Barry’s firm hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Barry has now been forced to put the business into voluntary liquidation and start up a new company under the name Oliver’s.
But the 46-year-old from Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, said despite the recent tough times, seeing his 17-year-old daughter perform on national TV, has been the light at the end of the tunnel.
Barry told the Sunday Sun: “It’s been a tough few years with the business and despite working all the hours God sends I’ve had to put it into voluntary liquidation and start up again under a new name, which is very sad for me because it’s my father’s heritage - he ran the company for more than 50 years.
“But Amelia getting through to the X Factor is what has kept me going.
“When Amelia got voted out of the show by her mentor Kelly Rowland, her brother Lewis said, ‘We haven’t seen the last of this’ and he was right.”
