Murder-style probe launched in Stanley after dad stabbed

A MURDER-STYLE investigation is under way after a man was stabbed in a midnight attack.

Police were called to Austen Place, South Stanley, County Durham, at around 12.30am where they discovered a man suffering from stab wounds in a pool of blood.

The 37-year-old was taken to hospital and was pronounced dead in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police are not saying if the stabbing took place inside the house or nearby outside.

Neighbours told of their shock after hearing of the suspected murder on their doorsteps.

Lee Carr, 26, came home after a night out and saw a hive of police activity.

It brought memories flooding back of when his mother, Susan, was murdered hours after her birthday by her boyfriend, Peter Killeen, in 2004, only streets away.

Lee said: “I try not to think about what happened to my mam, but when I saw the police cars it brought things back.

“I can’t believe that something else has taken place around here.

“I knew the man and it’s a shock to hear what has happened.”

Grandmother Jean Daglish, 61, of nearby Carvell Place, said: “My son lives two doors away from the family and they know them.
