Newcastle man held over Twitter racist remarks to Stan Collymore

DETECTIVES have charged a Newcastle man following allegations he sent footie pundit Stan Collymore racist abuse on Twitter.

Joshua Cryer, 21, of Jesmond, Newcastle, was charged with two public order offences last night after the former Premier League footballer called in cops over comments posted to him through the social networking site.

Stan Collymore contacted police in Staffordshire late on Friday night after he was allegedly sent two tweets by the man, believed to be a law student.

The force then contacted police at Northumbria, who launched an investigation.

Last night, police confirmed they had charged the 21-year-old.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said he would appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on January 23.

He has been charged with a section five racial public order offence and a section five public order offence.
