A BAND of Northerners who piled on the pounds are now beating the bulge on national TV.
Four people from the region are taking part in the ITV’s fat-fighting contest The Biggest Loser.
The aim of the game is to shed the most weight to win a cash prize.
And meet the programme’s biggest competitor yet, 38-year-old Kevin McLernon, who weighed in at a whopping 32st.
Property manager Kevin, from Sunderland’s Seaburn Dene, says his motivation to get fighting fit is so he and partner Joanne can have a family together.
He said: “I knew that I was heavy but when I was confirmed as the biggest person ever in the show it was a little bit depressing. But what drives me to lose weight is wanting a family. I can’t see me being a good dad being 32st.
“Joanne won’t want to have a baby with me knowing I could die early and leave her with teenage kids.”
In 2002, Kevin weighed a mere 14st but due to bad habits he almost doubled in weight in the space of five years.
But, while he can’t yet reveal how much weight he shed during the show, Kevin said it has transformed his world.
He said: “It has immeasurably changed my life.
“Obviously I still have weight I need to lose but every day is just getting better and better.”
