WITH ravines, mountains and deserts along the way, it’s a journey riddled with danger.
But Adam Marshall and his two pals are barmy enough to take on the 10,000-mile trip to Mongolia in the name of charity – all in a 1.0 litre car.
The Royal Navy trio are gearing up for the Mongol Rally in July 2013 to help raise cash for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
Adam and his friends, William Scown and John Ford, will start their adventure at the Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, in Cornwall, and end up at Mongolia’s capital Ulan Bator.
To make their task a bit more daunting, they have decided to go on the journey without using any satellite navigation systems.
Air traffic control officer Adam, 36, of Low Fell, Gateshead, said: “I have done a couple of fundraising events before, like the Great North Run, but nothing on this scale.
“We thought this would be a challenge and would help to raise a lot of money for our chosen charity.
“We have already had discussions with the Benfield Motor Group, who are trying to find us a car for the rally. It is likely to be a Nissan Micra or similar vehicle.
“We will be driving in turns and doing around 10 hours a day. In Europe, we will be stopping at hostels overnight. Once out of Europe, we will be camping.
