A devoted son's bid to raise cash in memory of his father has had a welcome lift from a top North bakery.
Paul Wallace's dad Joe died less than a year after retiring, just four months after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, a form of chest cancer linked to inhaling asbestos particles.
Paul, 33, of Sherburn Hill, County Durham, set up The Joe Wallace Breath of Life Fund with a mission to raise £90,000 . . . enough to fund at least three years' research into the disease.
He's teamed up with Peter's Bakery, which will display collection tins for his charity for four months.
He said: "I've just sent them 71 charity boxes and they will be put in each and every branch throughout the region."
"Hopefully, if their customers read the Sunday Sun they'll know why the boxes are in the bakers and will put some money in."
Paul, a community support officer with Northumbria Police, has two sons, Joseph, two, and Jack, six months, as well as a step-daughter Jade, eight, and stepson Danny, 14.
He has already raised several thousand pounds through a range of sporting events and is gearing up for the Great North Run.
