Edward’s education is a waste

PLEASE pardon my ignorance, but just exactly what qualifies Prince Edward to wear any military uniform, and why is he given £141,000 a year from the tax payers?

Did he not fail to complete his course in the marines and did he not have a first-class private education? Are his qualifications not sufficient or suitable to earn himself an honest living like the rest of us?

Why do so many members of the Royal family take up places at exclusive schools and universities when we all know they will never work?

Why not give these places to “troubled” yet clever children who would benefit greatly from them? In a good boarding school they would be away from temptation and would no longer “go with the flow”.

There would be a good chance that these children would then go down another path in life and take up meaningful employment . . . no longer a headache for the authorities and breaking the cycle of generations being unemployable — JOAN McTIGUE, independent councillor, Middlesbrough.

In an ideal world, children from all backgrounds should be given the opportunity for a first-class education.
