Pay row error

IN the article “Row Over Plans For Social Landlord” last week, Erimus Housing spokeswoman, Brenda Kirby stated that the allowances which will be offered to board members was “in a similar way to the way council members are paid”.

Clearly she had no idea what she is talking about . . . there is no similarity that I can see.

Firstly, my allowance is less than £6000 and, like some other councillors in Middlesbrough, I do not have a “council work-free day”.

It’s common knowledge that board members will be able to claim up to £20,000 and the chair — ex-Labour deputy mayor Bob Brady — around £40,000, and for what? I for one would love an explanation from Ms Kirby on this one.

All council tenants had a vote on whether we wanted to stay with the council or go over to Erimus. I voted to stay with the council.

I am an Erimus tenant now, but nobody offered us a vote on this new proposal — JOAN McTIGUE, Independent Councillor, Middlesbrough.
