I READ your story about the river rescues with a great deal of outrage.

What on earth possessed those parents to take the kids out in a dinghy when the river was so dangerously high?

As a result of their stupidity, the lives of their kids were put at risk and the emergency services used.

If they were to do it again I would be tempted just to leave them — D MITCHELL, Darlington.

I’m sure the family have learned their lesson although, if they were foolish enough to do it again, I don’t think it would be fair just to abandon them to their fate. No matter how tempting.
