In defence of prison

I’M writing on behalf of Northallerton YO1.

It has come to my attention that some allegations have been made against the prison officers that work here.  In  some way I feel the need to defend them.

These allegations that have been made are nonsense.

Every prisoner in this nick is treated the same. I have been at this prison for 11 months and the standard of hygiene is up to scratch for a prison.

Let me just say I’m happy serving my time here.

It’s not like people are making out . . . the hygiene in the cell is how prisoners choose to keep it.

If they choose to live like tramps it’s their choice. How can you make someone clean?

And eating  in  the cell where the toilet is is a standard procedure in prisons if they don’t have the facilities to seat prisoners on the wing.

It’s not like you’re eating on top of the toilet. So there you go, the truth, no bull. P.S. I think an apology is necessary — Ryan Sturman, HMP Northallerton, North Yorkshire.

As our story was based on the findings of an official report, we feel it was entirely justified.
