Ken Oxley’s pop at Pope’s condom comments misses the real problem of AIDS in Africa

I FIND it strange that journalists will have a go at something a world leader comments on.

I refer to Ken Oxley’s 14-line comment last week, criticising Pope Benedict for what he was supposed to have said regarding Africans and the use of condoms.

I doubt that if every African male over a certain age was given free condoms there would be no more AIDS in the continent.

The real problem is the high cost of medication by Western pharmaceutical companies in those poor countries.

I wish you could make comment on that instead of finding fault with a great religious leader — A KELLY, Sunderland.
