No statue for a ‘patronising toff’

Help is still needed

WITH news of rising unemployment, higher fuel bills and large profits from high-interest money lenders, it seems many local families are struggling just to cover simple, everyday costs.

Children’s charity Barnardo’s has recently revealed its rise in grant requests and I bet it is not the only one.

As MPs head off for their two-month summer holidays I want to make sure they don’t forget the poorest families in our area and remember the Government’s promise to end child poverty.

Failure to do so will send more families into unmanageable debt.

Now cannot be the time to abandon our poorest families to high interest lenders to make a profit from their difficulties.

I believe that the recession cannot be used as an excuse not to take care of them, but do our MPs?
