Street-wise Davis!

CHESTER-le-Street’s Jonathan Davis struck a brilliant century in the match aganst Durham City at Ropery Lae.

The Cestrians took first knock in and posted a mammoth score of 181-3, Davis hitting a superb 119 and Jack Harrison chipping in at the close with an unbeaten 30.

City were never in the hunt when they replied and settled for time in the middle as they closed on 80-4.

Joe Coyne has enjoyed an outstanding season for Boldon and his run of form continued with a hard-hitting 81 in his side’s home game with Burnmoor. With Nick Sampson-Barnes making 34 not out, Boldon put on a daunting 164-3 and the visitors were only able to limp to 70-7 when they responded.

Eppleton defeated Felling by 21 runs as Paul Coughlin (47no) and Shaun Clinton (36) led them to a score of 107-4 in their 20 overs.

Felling found the target just a few too many as Dean Muster grabbed 3-14 to help bowl the visitors out for 86.

At Ashbrooke, Whitburn were worried that they had not scored enough after being dismissed for just 78.

Jake Fowler had made 30 of those runs, but it was the bowling of Michael Cooney (5-10) which had caused the problems as he and Phil Smith (3-13) bowled in tandem to destroy the visiting line-up.

However, Sunderland were to find life even tougher as Dan Shaw (4-18) and Sam Winn (3-11) bowled Whitburn to a six-run success.

Elsewhere, Tom Pinkey’s unbeaten 41 took Gateshead Fell to a six-wicket victory over Hetton Lyons, who had only managed to total 80-6 in their allotted overs.

Marsden won by a comfortable eight wickets in their game at Horden after the home team left them only 55 to make.

  • AN unbeaten 45 from Johnny Wightman set up yet another win for Blaydon against Lanchester in the Foster’s Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League’s Junior Division.

Hayden Petch top-scored with 37 as the Kitswell Road lads managed 98-8 from their 20 overs before Wightman got to grips with the Lanchester attack to secure a five-wicket win – despite an excellent spell of 3-12 from Ashton Hughes.

Scott Soulsby struck an unbeaten half-century for Greenside as they totalled 108-2 against Burnopfield, who finished well short on 68-9.

Alec Hovells snapped up 3-27 and there were two cheap wickets for Glen Scott.

Ryton entertained Whickham and the visitors found Daniel Thompson (4-22) too hot to handle as they struggled to 69 all out.

That was a score Ryton overhauled for the loss of just two wickets, Lewis Barr carrying his bat for 33.

Lintz enjoyed their short journey to Enterprise Park where they rattled up 139 for the loss of only two wickets against Annfield Plain.

Chris Gray top-scored with 62 with Tim Hughes not far behind on 57 as they posted a total too daunting for the Plain.

The home side finished with 112-8 but never looked like matching Lintz’s display with the bat.
