Boro face Emnes heartache

MIDDLESBROUGH new boy Marvin Emnes is at the centre of an international tug-of-war which could plunge him into a club v country row this season.

Emnes has been asked to play for Suriname, his parents’ homeland, rather than Holland.

Although he is not expected to make a decision imminently, Emnes could defect in time to line up in several of Suriname’s World Cup qualifiers this season.

And Suriname’s surprise success so far in Central American qualifying means Emnes may well be tempted by the possibility of playing on football’s biggest stage.

The winger would stand to miss Boro’s home game against Chelsea on October 18 and trip to Everton on November 16.
