SV Hamburg track Boro striker Mido

SV HAMBURG are tracking Mido — according to reports on the Continent.

The Bundesliga club are now managed by Martin Jol, who signed the Egyptian for Tottenham, and have got money to spend following Rafael van der Vaart’s £12 million move to Real Madrid.

Boro would be reluctant to part with the 25-year-old now that he has overcome injury and weight problems.

But with a wealth of alternative attacking options at his disposal, and given the club’s much-publicised financial situation, Gareth Southgate could be tempted by a significant offer.

Meanwhile, Boro are awaiting a response to their £3m bid for Arsenal’s Justin Hoyte — though Steve Finnan and Moritz Volz are understood to be other right-back options.

While injuries to Julio Arca and Gary O’Neil could see a renewed attempt to land Reading’s James Harper.
