Boro 2, Bolton 0

MIDDLESBROUGH’S superb start to the season continued against an abject Bolton to record their fourth consecutive win and move to within a point of second-placed Liverpool.

Boro could – and should – have taken the lead as early as the first minute when Massimo Maccarone blasted over from six yards following an Alan Boksic pass.

More missed chances followed but on 23 minutes, Ugo Ehiogu converted his second chance of the game after a deep cross from Geremi, heading into the net via Jaaskelainen and the bar.

With Bolton being run ragged another goal looked like coming, but the half ended with a well-struck Kevin Nolan shot being saved one handed by a diving Mark Schwarzer.

A calm run and finish from Geremi, following a Joseph Job throughball on 68 minutes, killed off any chance of Bolton stealing a point.
