TWO goals from super-sub Jeremie Aliadiere gave Boro their first win over Ipswich since 1992.
The French forward came off the bench to slot home twice and kill off the challenge of Roy Keane’s Tractor Boys at a time when Boro were wobbling.
Gary O’Neil was denied a penalty but got ample compensation as he put Boro in front with a looping header in the first half but the visitors twice had headers cleared off the line before Aliadiere pounced twice to seal the game.
Ipswich pulled one back with a stoppage time penalty but it was scant consolation for troubled Keane, whose side have now taken just two points from six games.
Ipswich gave debuts to former Sunderland pair Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards, who were reunited with old Black Cats boss Roy Keane for a combined fee of £4.9m last week, and also Liam Rosenior, on loan from Fulham.
Boro probed first in the second minute as Tony McMahon picked up a lay back from Marvin Emnes on the right and curled in a cross but Ipswich keeper Wright was out quickly to collect before Leroy Lita could connect.
And two minutes later, as an Ipswich corner was cleared, McMahon sent Emnes surging down the right to twist and turn past Edwards but his over-hit cross sailed over Lita and Adam Johnson arriving at the far post.
On seven minutes Boro won a free kick 21 yards out and smack bang in the middle after a foul on McMahon but David Wheater’s low effort was slammed straight into the wall.
Boro continued to press and created a half-chance on 13 minutes when Emnes pace created space down the right and O’Neil whipped in a cross from the left for Lita to send a glancing header flashing wide of the far post.
And the pressure told on 16 minutes as Boro got a deserved opener.
Williams played a ball forward and O’Neil flicked the ball on into the box and burst forward only to be sent sprawling by chasing defender Damien Delaney.
