Franc on form

NEWCASTLE’S Josef Franc beat last month’s British Grand Prix winner Chris Harris on Saturday while picking up three World Championship points in Prague as a reserve in the Czech Grand Prix.

Franc was given two races in place of injured Swedish rider Antonio Lindback and didn’t have to beat anyone for his first point in heat 16 after another Swede, Andreas Jonsson, crashed.

But he had to battle to hold off Harris for second in heat 20 as they both left behind the captain of Poland’s World Cup winning side last week Tomasz Gollob.

Ex-Newcastle rider and 2003 world champion Nicki Pedersen won the meeting with seven victories.
