CHRIS HUGHTON has dropped the strongest hint yet that he hopes to stay on as Newcastle manager on a more permanent basis.
United’s caretaker boss last night revealed he has turned down other jobs – almost certainly managerial jobs – to stay at St James’s Park.
With Newcastle’s takeover saga still unresolved, the prospect of Mike Ashley staying on as owner has increased.
And United’s solid start to life in the Championship under Hughton has put the long-time coach in the frame to take the Toon hotseat for the foreseeable future.
Now, Hughton has made it clearer than ever that he is actively seeking the job.
“Over a period of time, I have had offers to go elsewhere. Certainly, there have been enquiries, there’s no doubt,” said the long-time Tottenham No 2. “But I haven’t been tempted one little bit.
