Wolves hunt Andy Carroll

Matthew Kilgallon’s transfer from Sheffield United is almost signed, sealed and delivered and will go through when the Blades find cover but Hughton also wants a left-back and a striker.

“We have had further conversations, we’re talking all the time,” Hughton said.

“We know we’re approaching the window and we know we have decisions to make on players we have and players that we would like to bring in.

“Those conversations are very much on-going.

“We certainly haven’t ruled out the possibility of buying players. The biggest thing for me is what areas we need and who I want to bring in.

“I don’t anticipate a busy window - the most important thing is not to disrupt the squad too much.

“I want to bring in the right players for this football club.”

And he added: “We haven’t spoken specifically about a budget yet.

“My talks with Derek (Llambias) and Mike (Ashley, owner of Newcastle) are very much about players I would like to bring in.

“My thoughts are no different to what they were a few weeks ago – that is that they will support me.”

United also hope to clinch a deal for Danny Simpson, who wants to make a move to St James’ Park.

“I’ve been delighted with Danny. Talks are ongoing and decisions will be made at some stage,” Hughton said.
