I’ll be on top of world if I get Cup call: Fabricio Coloccini

Fabricio Coloccini

FABRICIO Coloccini believes that Newcastle United’s promotion has boosted his hopes of a World Cup call-up.

The stylish central defender has been omitted from recent Argentina squads by their national coach Diego Maradona.

Ironically, Coloccini was a regular choice early in the season, when still in the process of rebuilding a reputation shattered by United’s relegation to the Championship.

And that fact that he has dropped out of the international picture in recent months has convinced many back home in Argentina that Colo will miss out on South Africa.

But he is convinced that his imminent return to the Premier League could prove decisive as Maradona ponders his final selection.

“It will be difficult, but I have never lost hope,” said Coloccini.

“The first thing I needed to do was make things right for my club, and luckily, I have fulfilled the objectives that I set out for this season with Newcastle.
