Newcastle have not yet discussed making an approach to in-demand Boro striker Mark Viduka. And the word from St James's Park is that the Magpies expect Viduka to agree a new deal at the Riverside.
Boro fans have become increasingly resigned to losing the 31-year-old as his current contract enters its final fortnight.
And the revelation from Birmingham chairman David Sullivan that they are one of eight clubs in for Viduka has added to the gloom.
Newcastle's new boss Sam Allardyce was assumed to be on the Aussie's trail, but a Magpies' source told the Sunday Sun: "Sam hasn't said a word to the chairman about Viduka .
"That's not to say he definitely isn't interested, but Sam is in France on a family holiday and doesn't expect to do any transfer business quickly.
"The feeling here is that Viduka will decide to stay at Boro anyway."
