Clubs united to help Gazza

Paul Gascoigne

NEWCASTLE and Tottenham have united in their efforts to help stricken former star Paul Gascoigne.

Spurs have contacted the Magpies to pledge to work in partnership with them to aid Gazza’s recovery after he was arrested and sectioned in midweek.

But Newcastle have denied that they have promised to foot the former England midfielder’s medical bills.

Gascoigne remains in a psychiatric intensive care unit at Middleton St George Hospital near Darlington.

But the two clubs where he made his name are discussing how best to help the 40-year-old.

“Newcastle United are already in contact with Paul’s family and we are liaising with them to determine what support is needed at this time,” revealed Jonathan Adelman, of the Tottenham Tribute Trust.

Meanwhile, suggestions of a rift between Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan and striker Mark Viduka were played down last night.

Keegan insisted Viduka’s absence from the squad for yesterday’s 5-1 hammering at the hands of Manchester United was down to injury rather than a rumoured bust-up.
