MANAGERIAL legend George Graham has revealed his fears for Kevin Keegan’s long-term future – and health – as Newcastle boss.
Graham (far right) is worried that Keegan may again walk away from St James’s Park as he battles to meet the expectations of United’s boardroom and supporters against a backdrop of five decades of underachievement.
And former Arsenal and Tottenham boss Graham also criticised Newcastle’s decision to appoint Dennis Wise as the club’s director of football last month.
Graham, who admits he is craving a return to management with “a top Premiership side,” said Keegan’s authority may already be seen to have been irretrievably damaged if Newcastle’s results don’t significantly improve before the end of the season.
“I don’t understand why they appointed Dennis Wise and if Kevin Keegan didn’t know much about it then it’s not a good sign,” said Graham, who was himself previously linked with the United hotseat.
“If I was in Kevin’s position I would feel uncomfortable and to be honest I would be concerned about Kevin’s long-term future and his health at St James’s Park given the way the club is run and the pressure on his shoulders.
“They’re a big club with big expectations of the manager – and it’s going to take time to turn things around.”
