Secret to Beye's good form? - Rice pudding!

THE secret recipe behind Habib Beye’s storming recent form – and frenzied derby victory celebrations – has been revealed . . . home-made rice pudding.

You know, the proper stuff. With the skin on. Like what your mam used to make on Sundays.

Beye was introduced to one of our most traditional puds by chef Liz Kelly at Newcastle’s training ground.

But a taste for the cinnamon and nutmeg-flavoured fancy quickly became an obsession.

So much so that Beye was soon pestering said chef to bake him one every day.

Having had to disappoint him on several occasions – Beye’s team-mates apparently insisting on some variety in their lunchtime desserts – the cook finally relented . . .

By promising the Senegal star rice pudding every day this week if Newcastle beat Sunderland last Sunday.

Beye (left) duly played his full part in a straightforward 2-0 win, before celebrating wildly, throwing his shirt into the crowd . . . and then claiming his just desserts.

But his sweet tooth should be no surprise, with Senegalese cuisine noted for the richness of its puddings.
