Argentinian star keen on Newcastle move

ARGENTINIAN playmaker Pablo Aimar is keen on a move to Newcastle.

The 28-year-old midfielder, pictured left, who made his name at international level and with Valencia, is looking to leave Zaragoza following their relegation from La Liga.

Newcastle have been linked with Aimar, who joined Zaragoza two years ago for £10 million, but is now available for barely half that amount.

His agent, Gustavo Muscardi, claims the Magpies have made an inquiry but no formal approach for a player who holds a Spanish passport and would therefore encounter no work permit problems.

And while Muscardi is aware of interest in Aimar from clubs in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico and Portugal, he admitted that England holds particular attraction.

“Newcastle have asked about Aimar’s situation — that is certain,” said Muscardi.

“There has still not been any formal offer for us and Zaragoza to study, but the Premier League would be perfect for him, and I want to speak with Newcastle to take things forward.”
