Spear is free to join Toon

WONDERKID Aaron Spear’s move to Newcastle is all but guaranteed — with Plymouth powerless to stop the 15-year-old striker from joining United.

But final confirmation of the deal could be a while in coming, with Championship side Argyle yet to see official confirmation that Spear wants to leave.

Although talks are yet to begin between them and the Magpies, Plymouth have vowed not to block Spear’s departure to the North East.

The youngster’s family have written to Argyle informing them of Spear’s future plans, but club officials are still to study the contents of the letter.

Although they could not force Spear to stay in any case — as a schoolboy, he is not contracted to them — Plymouth will give their full blessing to the move.

And that goodwill will extend to not holding Newcastle to ransom over the compensation figure due to them for a player rated as one of the most talented players of his age in recent times.
