NORTH East boxing legend Glenn McCrory has challenged former NUFC legends to a charity football match to raise money for an experience of a lifetime for kids in the Newbiggin Hall area of Newcastle.
McCrory’s team of All Stars will take on a star-studded team of United old boys at the Newcastle Falcons rugby ground at Kingston Park today, kick-off 5pm.
Former NUFC favorites Rob Lee and John Beresford have signed up to play as well as Paul Bracewell, Steve Howey, and members of Kevin Keegan’s finest of the 90s have also said yes!
Former goalkeeper Kevin Carr, John Anderson, Wes Saunders, Alan Shoulder, Ian Bogie and Jeff Wrightson will also star in the United team, ensuring that this will be a packed day out for the whole family.
The game is kindly sponsored by Eldon Square Shopping Centre and McCrory’s All Stars will include former Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton, sporting celebs — giant former rugby player Doddie Weir, ex-Sunderland defender Richard Ord, former British and European boxing champion Billy Hardy and of course the big man himself, Glenn McCrory.
Even the referee’s a star — Alan Wilkie, famous for sending off Eric Cantona at Crystal Palace sparking that infamous kung-fu kick!
“It’s a truly wonderful gesture by all involved to give up a precious Sunday to raise money for kids, from
what is not exactly a privileged part of the city,” said McCrory.
“The celebrities and stars who have agreed to play are supporting a worthy cause and the money raised will go towards taking young boxers of Northumbria ABC on a journey of a lifetime to fight in San Francisco at the end of the year.
“Amateur boxing helps keep kids off the streets and that’s a huge benefit to communities like Newbiggin Hall.”
Tickets for the game are £10 for Adults and £5 for children and OAPs, and are available from the Kingston Park box office hotline on 0871 226 6060.
