ALAN SHEARER will launch a last-ditch survival gamble today – by handing Michael Owen a place on the Newcastle bench in the do-or-die clash with Aston Villa.
Shearer had ruled Owen out of the trip to Villa Park after the striker failed to train on Friday due to groin trouble.

But the Newcastle boss plans to throw Owen into the fray only if the Magpies need a late goal to save their Premier League status.
