Star hit by late winner

NEWCASTLE Blue Star suffered their first defeat of the season in the UniBond League First Division North when they conceded a last-minute winner at Bridlington Town.

Yet the day started well for the Tynesiders, who were full value for a two-goal interval lead.

Dean Douglas was first to strike with a fine individual effort, before former Gretna striker Lee Novak produced another outstanding finish.

Neil Toward reduced the deficit, and he quickly struck a second after a skirmish in the box.

Despite the double setback, Blue Star were on course for a fourth consecutive draw until Daniel Lackie struck a dramatic late winner.

“It was disappointing to lose to a last-ditch goal, and more so since we were comfortably ahead at the break,” said director of football Bob Morton.”
