Hartlepool United 0 Brentford 0

STICK with us – that’s the message from Chris Turner after his side’s miserable goalless draw with Brentford.

Pools’ performance was as dismal as the conditions at a gloomy Victoria Park on Friday.

And it meant all the early promise shown this season so far is in danger of being washed away.

They’ve only won once in front of their own fans in eight games in all competitions – a run of results and form which is causing consternation and criticism from the crowd.

“We won at Gillingham and I didn’t hear their crowd criticise their players. It was the same at Stockport when we totally outplayed them in the second half,” said Turner.

“The two (team and fans) have got to come together, but we have had the same criticisms before and we will improve and win people back and go forward.”

Turner’s summer rebuilding job was a big one – he has signed 12 players all in to stamp his authority on the squad that has under-achieved in the last two seasons.

But, at the moment, this bunch of players is following the same trend set in the past. They should be higher up the League One table.

A win over Walsall a fortnight ago was followed by an encouraging point and performance at Stockport.

But, with the fixture list looking quite kind, they followed up with a loss at Exeter, a home reverse to Grimsby in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and this woeful draw with Brentford.

“At the moment, things in front of goal aren’t breaking for us, which gives you that little bit of extra belief and those wins,” he said. “I think we need a lucky break, we don’t seem to get many breaks in front of goal.
