“I can’t knock the lads for their commitment, even though some might think they should be doing more.
“I think we are getting the best out of them, apart from that little bit of confidence that gives them the edge to their game that is just lacking a little bit at the moment.”
But chances for Pools were too few and too far between.
Antony Sweeney had a couple of early shots from close range, one was diverted over, the other blasted over.
Denis Behan’s dipping volley flashed across goal, but that was about it.
At the other end, Scott Flinders was equally untested, a couple of intelligent early saves aside.
“I see it as both a point gained and two points lost,” added Turner, who restored James Brown and Peter Hartley to his line-up after recent injuries. “A clean sheet is a positive, we just couldn’t get that one chance.
“Even late on when Colin Larkin got a deflection – that ball falls to him and he scores and the team get clapped off the pitch with three points. That’s how close it is.
“We just couldn’t get that clear-cut chance and I think both sides really cancelled each other out apart from a couple of sporadic attacks from either side, especially in the second half.
“It had 0-0 written all over it from quite early on and I think it’s most important that you don’t lose it. We are working hard on finishing and shooting, sometimes you go through these little periods where you can’t get that goal.”
With a reunion with Danny Wilson next up, Pools go to Swindon on Saturday, it’s a period Pools need to end sharp.
