Carlisle United 0 Swindon 1

He got his head to it, but it skipped away as the Carlisle inquest started.

Ian Harte almost surprised Lucas in the Swindon goal with an early second-half free-kick from tight by the right-hand corner flag, but the Robins stopper got a hand to it to divert it over the bar.

Danny Livesey thought he had scored when he met a Kavanagh corner on the full, but it went right at Lucas and he was able to gather.

The Robins settled in midfield and Cuthbert got forward at a set piece, but his volley from a goalmouth scramble was blocked by Livesey on the six-yard line.

The same United defender did enough to deflect a long-range effort from Anthony McNamee wide, with Lenny Pidgeley stranded as it flew over his head.

Captain Livesey was let off the hook when he sliced a clearance and then compounded the error with a poor back pass, but Alex Revell lost his composure and blazed it over in front of an open goal.

The Cumbrians huffed and puffed but it was an easy afternoon for goalkeeper David Lucas, who kept a clean sheet thanks to the lack of efforts on target from a lacklustre Carlisle side.

Abbott added: “The most disappointing thing from this was the lack of desire.

“We did not look like we wanted to play at all and it is a display which has halted the progress we want to make. We have to come back from that and try to get back on track again.”
