Millwall 1 Hartlepool 0

YOU have to go right back to October 31 and a Halloween visit to Brighton for the last time Pools avoided defeat in a game away from home.

The outcome of the eight games since that 3-3 draw is enough to give Chris Turner nightmares – eight games, eight losses, no points from 24.

Pools stay out of the relegation zone thanks to Tuesday’s simple win over Carlisle at Victoria Park.

And it looks like it will be their home form that is the key to keeping them out of it, starting against Southend United next weekend.

This performance mirrored plenty of Pools other shows on the road – they played tidy football and created their share of chances in pressing the opposition back.

But, despite the home side hanging on at the end, they fell short in front of goal.

“I thought our boys pressed Millwall all the way and showed what they can do – all that was lacking was a bit of good fortune in front of goal,” said Turner.

“We were unlucky with the goal – a free-kick was deflected into the net off our defensive wall and wrong-footed the goalkeeper.

“It was a tight game throughout and an entertaining one, it looked that way from where I was.

“It was 22 fully-committed players who went for it.”
