RYHOPE CW enhanced their championship prospects by hitting Coxhoe Athletic for six while their nearest challengers both lost.
Nathan Johnson gave the Wearsiders a 46th-minute lead, but Ian Ward equalised almost immediately.
However, any hopes Coxhoe harboured of causing an upset soon disappeared as Ryhope scored five times in a frenetic 25-minute spell.
Clayton Davis struck a hat-trick and Philip Hall bagged a brace of goals.
Easington Colliery went down to mid-table Redcar Athletic. Daniel Drazdauskas scored the only goal of the game before being sent-off in the last minute for kicking the ball away. There was further good news for second-top Ryhope CW when third-placed New Marske suffered an unexpected defeat at home to Ashbrooke Belford House.
The Wearsiders made a dream start as Martin Deacon scored twice in the opening 15 minutes.
Ricky Phillips reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time, but New Marske couldn’t find an equaliser.
Boldon CA went nap at Houghton Town. Michael Meek rifled a hat-trick and Shaun Reay hit the back of the net twice. Houghton would have suffered an even heavier defeat but for a man-of-the-match performance by goalkeeper Dean Caris.
Kirkbymoorside defeated Wolviston by the odd goal in three.
Jonathan Brown opened the scoring, but Michael Traynor volleyed in Wolviston’s equaliser.
The Yorkshiremen clinched victory following two late penalties. Sarjo Cham converted Kirkbymoorside’s spot-kick, but when Wolviston were awarded a penalty, goalkeeper Adam Magson saved from Steve Kilpatrick.
Darlington Cleveland Bridge edged Stockton Town. Gavin Wilson headed the Bridge in front and Michael Richardson made it two. David Johnson threw Stockton a lifeline just before the interval.
Jarrow defeated Windscale with a last-minute goal at Perth Green.
Paul Terrell struck from close range, but Peter McDermott quickly restored parity for Windscale.
Peter Kane restored Jarrow’s advantage with a tremendous 25-yard effort into the top corner, but with only two minutes remaining Dean Rogers equalised.
With extra-time looming, Jarrow celebrated reaching the semi-finals of the Wearside League Cup as Kane beat keeper James Dolan from close range.
