Durham City 3, Mossley 2

DURHAM City are in with a chance of being named Team of the Month after winning four games, drawing one and losing only to leaders Chester.

They completed a quick double over Mossley, whom they defeated last week.

City were quickly on the offensive and went ahead after only 12 minutes.

David Dowson found Stephen Thompson, who was fouled by Mike Jones. The referee pointed to the spot and although Mossley goalkeeper Peter Collinge guessed correctly, Thompson’s kick was beyond his reach.

Collinge made a superb flying save to keep out an Amar Purewal left-foot drive and the keeper then fisted clear with Amar Purewal closing.

All of a sudden Mossley came into the game with Mattie Kay and Kristian Dennis forcing Lewis Graham into good saves.

Minutes later Graham was at full stretch to keep out Kay’s effort and it was no surprise when the visitors equalised on 40 minutes. Dennis took a short corner and Chris Rowney drove home through a crowd of players.

After the break, City finally hit back when Dowson broke clear in the 85th minute and buried his shot into the net.

Two minutes later Durham had breathing space as Jack Pounder delivered an absolute screamer that left Collinge stranded.

In the first minute of stoppage time, however, Dennis reduced the deficit to a single goal.
