England women looking to turn on the style

ENGLAND will be out to entertain when they go in search of their first Women’s World Cup success.

They start their campaign against Mexico tomorrow, with midfielder Jill Scott promising they will be out to win in style.

The women’s game is on the up in England after impressive campaigns at the last World Cup and European Championships captured the public imagination.

Hopes are high they can go one better in Germany this summer.

Sunderland-born Scott said: “I was involved in the last World Cup and we got a bit of interest which carried on into the Euros.

“The games are on the BBC so we want to make them exciting.

“Going into the game you need a win, that will always be the main aim.

“We analyse ourselves very harshly, and we will be trying to go out there to win and entertain.”

Under Hope Powell, their coach of the last 13 years, England have tried to adopt a more attractive style of play – and Scott thinks the work is beginning to bear fruit.

The Everton midfielder added: “I think over the years we have tried to pass the ball a lot better and we are becoming fitter all the time.

“We need to be more clinical in front of goal, but I think that is coming too.”
