Leyton Orient 1 Carlisle United 2

GREG ABBOTT handed debuts to Stephen O’Halloran and former Boro striker Lee Miller for the trip to Leyton Orient.

And it was a second-half turnaround that did the job as Carlisle came from behind to keep their early season momentum going.

The first half was as tight as had been predicted with little in the way of clear-cut chances, but new boy Miller showed some good touches as he linked up the forward play.

James Berrett came closest to breaking the deadlock with two rasping long-range efforts and he brought the best out of Button with his second attempt with the keeper rising high to fingertip it over the bar.

Dean Cox was the liveliest of the home strike-force and he tried his luck with a near-post shot when he bullied his way to the bye line, but Adam Collin got low to push it away.

Cureton found time and space to have a go with a neat lob when the ball unexpectedly landed at his feet, but it was all very tight as unforced errors affected the pace of the game.

The tempo picked up just ahead of the break and Cox scissor-kicked over from close-range when a miscued clearance from Michalik pinged up invitingly.

O’Halloran marked his impressive debut with the tackle of the game when McSweeney dinked a spinning ball over the top. Cureton and Cox converged, but the big defender chose his moment wisely as he slid in to prevent the pair from bursting clear.
